The responsibilities of the Senior Research Scientist (SRS) will be to provide psychometric expertise and support on various research projects, statistical modeling, analyzing primary and secondary data, and writing technical reports. The SRS will be supervised by the Chief Accountability Officer. The SRS will design appropriate instruments for data collection practices and provide statistical analyses for assigned projects. The primary purpose of this position is to plan and perform basic and complex statistical analyses for state and federal accountability such as running regressions, MANOVAs, SEM, and general linear modeling where appropriate. This individual will provide technical assistance in education-related statistical research methodology, including psychometric support for various analyses and should be familiar with item response theory and Rasch modeling. The SRS will provide guidance and oversight to less experienced statisticians/research associates on technical aspects of their work and ensure quality control of data analysis for the division interpreting research results in an accurate and objective manner. This individual will represent the Arizona Department of Education Accountability and Research's position on technical issues to various stakeholders and contribute to the team functions and responsibilities to disseminate data results to constituents. The SRS must have strong analytic skills, writing skills, work as part of a team, take the lead on research projects when appropriate, and the ability to meet tight deadlines while balancing multiple projects. This individual should be proficient in SAS, SPSS, multilevel modeling software and MS Access or equivalent computer software that can handle large datasets. A Master's degree in social sciences, education, psychology, statistics or related field plus 3+ years relevant experience is required. A doctorate degree in psychometrics, educational research, educational measurement or related field is preferred. This position requires overnight travel both in and out of state.
