Position: Controls Engineer

Basic Description
This is an engineering position ideal for electrical engineers with a minimum of two years design experience in the automation field. The candidate will work closely with the Engineering Team to design, build, document, and support electro mechanical assemblies used in industrial automation and manufacturing equipment. Candidates must be US Citizens per International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Critical Responsibilities.

• Use contemporary CAD tools to design electrical systems/schematics to industries standards ( ie, UL508A, NPFA 79, EN/ISO 13849-1, CE/EU Certification)
• Work closely with mechanical design architects to develop and deploy fully automated solutions for the tooling program
• Serve as the lead controls architect for our torque tooling solutions and guide design effort in creating prototype and production drawings and PLC software

Additional Responsibilities
• Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting overall design including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards and motor controls
• Structure and delegate sub-assemblies to drafters and other engineers, and/or sub-contractors as required to reduce design to fabrication lead time and improve on-time-delivery (OTD)
• Develop, validate, and document modular code using industry standard PLC software and Subversion
• Understand and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and quality standards
• Become familiar with standard operating procedures and tools while working along side our Client's engineers
• Prepare documentation for and attend technical interchange meetings with customers and vendors
• Build up parts lists and work with project managers to submit components for purchasing
• Assist assemblers and operations technicians with the construction of prototype systems
• Assist software engineers and technicians in troubleshooting and integrating system designs
• Some local, national and intern-national travel may be required, but is typically less than 15%

Skills
• Experience with the use of common test equipment (DMMs, Oscilloscopes... etc.)
• Experience with industry standard PLC platforms (Mitsubishi and Allen Bradley is a plus)
• Experience with AutoCAD (Auto CAD Electrical is a plus)
• Experience with electric and pneumatic controls
• Ability to create JIC schematics
• Ability to read P&ID diagrams and other technical literature
• A strong understanding of industry safety standards for motion control
• Self-motivated, proactive with a positive attitude and a willingness to be hands-on with engineering projects
• Must work well within an engineering team as well as independently and without constant supervision
• Ability to think and act quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure deadlines are met
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education and Experience
One of the following is required:
• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field of study, and two years of applied engineering experience
• An Associate's degree in related field plus four years of prior experience in a field relevant to our Client's core competencies
