Greening Youth Foundation (GYF, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to nurture environmental stewardship among diverse youth and young adults, and expose them to conservation careers.

GYF seeks a "Teacher Intern” at the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail (SEMO), located at Selma and Hayneville, Alabama. The internship position is for a 1,200 hour period, and is expected to start around December 1, 2016

Position Overview and Tasks:
This internship is open to recent college graduates with backgrounds in Education or Communication.
Under the supervision of Park Ranger Anthony Bates or an assigned representative, the successful intern will work with certified teachers from local K-12 grade educational institutions and trail staff beginning December 1, 2016 and concluding on September 2, 2017 to develop and test resource material related to teacher information packets. Each packet would involve developing pre-visit and post-visit activities, information sheets containing a list of appropriate curriculum, lessons, activities, and demonstrations that would help convey concepts that correlate with Alabama Educational Standards. A minimum of 16 education programs will be created focusing on 2nd, 4th, 7th and 11th grades. The selected intern will also be responsible for the professional printing and binding of 1500 (375 per grade) education packets that will also be available for download via the trail website, and working with the trail staff for the implementation of the 2017 Junior Ranger Summer Camp.

This internship is open to college students of diverse backgrounds between 16 and 25 years of age who have an undergraduate degree in Education or Communication. The intern must demonstrate interest or knowledge of education curriculum.
U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S. residency is required, and the successful applicant should be able to pass a federal background check before the internship.
It is essential that applicants have strong communication skills (written and oral), strong work ethic and the ability to work independently. Intern must be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment with attention to detail. Intern must be trustworthy, dependable and willing to work with people of different perspectives. Intern must have great organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and be able to write reports and create presentations.

Position Compensation
The selected applicants will be compensated at a rate of $12/hour over 1,200 hours each as approved by their supervisor.
They will receive a $400 incentive bonus within 2-3 weeks of the submission date for each of the following:
  • 2nd Grade Education Packet (Final Copy) – Received by NPS no later than January 13, 2017
  • 4th Grade Education Packet (Final Copy) – Received by NPS no later than February 17, 2017
  • 7th and 11th Grade Education Packet (Final Copy) – Received by NPS no later than March 17, 2017
  • Printing and binding of 375 (1,500) Teacher Packets for each Grade (expenses paid by project) – Final Copy received by NPS no later than April 25, 2017.

An additional $400 one-time payment will be awarded for the implementation of the 2017 Junior Ranger Summer Camp at the conclusion of the internship, September 30, 2017.

Other Information
The successful intern will be permitted to do some work remotely, as approved by their supervisor. They must have a means of transportation to and from their reporting sites, which will primarily be in Montgomery, Selma, and Hayneville, Alabama. A valid driver's license is required to operate government vehicles as approved while conducting official government business.
Housing is not available for the intern.
