Job Description
  • To be the resident HMPT 800 and 800B transmission manufacturing and product engineering expert stationed at the Red River Army Depot filling the manufacturing and product support eng roles as part of the resident Client Combat Propulsion Systems team at Red River Army Depot.
  • Manufacturing Engineering Role: To understand the HMPT transmission manufacturing and assembly process, answer technical questions related to HMPT 800 and 800B transmission manufacturing; train hourly operators and salary workers; document and update the transmission build process operator work instructions; specify tools, gages, fixtures, capital equipment and any related support equipment for HMPT transmission assembly; interface with equipment vendors to resolve equipment or fixture issues; support production by resolving process, producibility and quality problems using Lean Six Sigma techniques; and monitor and report out project progress against a planned schedule and budget.
  • Product Engineering Role: To understand the HMPT transmission product technology, interpret the product specification, be the Material Review Board Authority, answer technical questions related to HMPT 800 and 800B transmission testing, troublshoot test failures, and document test failure findings in engineering reports.
  • Other New Product Launch Items: HMPT transmission dynomometer test cell installation and validation consultant.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical BS degree with a minimum of 10 years experience.
  • Availability for 6 months of training in the Muskegon, MI area from approximately July to Dec 2017 and then permanent residence in the Texarkana, TX area to work at the Red River Amy Depot.
  • Availability to take business trips to Muskegon, MI and to US ARMY field sites to support program activities (while located at permanent residence in the Texarkana, TX area).
  • Must be able to move freely, with or without reasonable accommodation, throughout a manufacturing environment.
  • Engineering knowledge of mechanics; hydraulics; transmission parts such as gears housings, and shafts; knowledge of performance parameters such as speed, RPM, torque, power and gear ratios; and understanding of component stress and strain.
  • Manufacturing assembly experience and understanding of Lean Six Sigma and SPC methods.
  • GD&T knowledge, ability to to read machining and assembly prints, and understanding of bill of materials and processes.
  • Experience working with suppliers in the design and fabrication of fixtures, assembly equipment, tools, or parts.
  • An understanding of working with CAD models and programs in Pro E (Creo) and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of United States Customary Units and International System of Units (SI) for measurements.
  • Proven ability to make technical decisions, complete project objectives within budget and schedule, and work with little supervision.
  • Proven ability to work well with others in a cross-functional environment while working on multiple projects.
  • Ability to track metrics and report status of engineering activities.
  • Ability to utilize all Microsoft Office applications, good written communication, good verbal communication skills, and ability to write engineering failure analysis reports.
  • Ability to get security clearance.
Preferred
  • Product knowledge of the HMPT Transmission.
  • Experience in regulated aerospace/military manufacturing environment with CNC Machining, complex assembly and product test
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD).
  • Project management experience and ability to use MS Project to create schedules.
