JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Systems Engineer will be a key member of a team with responsibilities for planning, designing and implementing the technology roadmap.
The Senior Systems Engineer is a lead role requiring extensive skill and proficiency.
This role is a mentor to junior members of staff and works only with administrative supervision on IT Infrastructure projects.
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for being the subject matter expert for the design, build, and operation of enterprise Storage and Virtualization and other tightly coupled technologies/solutions.
Participates as a senior member of the IT Infrastructure team in strategic planning and direction. Recommends and assists in the selection, evaluation and implementation of new technologies and software tools to assist in maintaining the server environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Infrastructure Program team to deploy Virtual Desktop Infrastructure across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
  • Member of the IT Infrastructure and Operations department managing server and network infrastructure:
    • ESX/Horizon View VMWare virtual server environment.
    • Cisco UCS server environment.
    • Infinidat SAN storage environment.
    • EMC VNX Storage environment.
    • Client Left-hand Storage environment.
    • Client ProLiant G7 and G8 Blade servers.
    • Multi OS Environment.
    • LAN/WAN environment.
  • Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to other engineering groups and support teams.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Prioritization and delivery of work product:
    • Programs and Projects: ensuring timely completion of all deliverables and milestones.
    • Business as usual requests: sequencing and delivery.
    • Incident triage and resolution: ensuring all assigned incidents are investigated and resolved within agreed timeframes.
    • Problem investigation and resolution: conducting root cause analysis to eliminate repeat incidents.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise for program and projects in support of IT Infrastructure and Operations initiatives:
    • Research and Development.
    • Assist with project discovery, requirements gathering, design and implementation.
  • Provide support for IT Infrastructure and Operations and Services team:
    • Serve as a point of escalation for reported incidents and user requests.
  • Assist other departments with installing, upgrading and maintaining hardware, software, system configurations and software images.
  • Work with IT Infrastructure and Operations and Services management to deliver on the daily operations and services:
  • Remain current on new and emerging technologies.
  • Participate in strategic planning and tactical decision-making.
  • Assist with specification and acquisition of hardware and software.
  • Maintain inventory and license records.
Skills and Core Competencies:
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with VMware (Design, Build, Operate).
  • Knowledge of Integrated Converged Stack infrastructure (VCE Vblock or FlexPod).
  • Five to ten years Storage and Virtualization experience.
  • Knowledge with Large Scale Storage Area Network Systems (Design, Build, Operate) for Infinidat and EMC.
  • VMware: VCP 5+ Certified, working knowledge of: scripting (i.e. PowerShell), Orchestrator, SRM, VCOPS, SMVI, VCAC.
  • Compute: Working knowledge of Cisco UCS technologies. Maintain server/blade hardware include failed component replacement. Orchestration experience a plus.
  • Systems Engineering background with understanding of Cloud Computing Reference Architecture.
  • Experience with INFINIDAT data support systems.
  • Key expertise for these technologies includes: replication, clustering and virtualization (VMware ESXi 5.1) spanning deployment, configuration, documenting, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of enterprise IT services and technologies, including networking systems and protocols, directory services, configuration management, and cloud platforms.
  • Certifications:
    • VMware: VCP 5 and above.
    • Advanced Certification in relevant technologies (Cisco/EMC/Microsoft/VMWare).
  • Applicants with ITIL, PMP, PRINCE2 or other framework certifications a plus.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or other related discipline.
