Manager, Quality Assurance & Compliance
General Purpose:
This is a management position responsible for assuring that all products manufactured at the Plant meet the quality standards established by DFA, all relevant regulatory agencies, and our Customers. The QA Manager is responsible for managing the daily Quality Assurance and Compliance efforts at the plant and the Laboratory employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Understand and manage Quality, Food Safety, and Food Security operations in the food manufacturing facility. Ensure that plant and all plant personnel are operating in compliance with all DFA company procedures, customer requirements, FDA and government regulations. Implement and manage DFA QA&C quality, food safety, and HACCP programs. Develop plant-specific policies and procedures as needed and provide training to employees. Implement and maintain Quality Systems to ensure plant products meet all specifications. Manage "Hold and Release" programs for finished products and ingredients, coordinate COA review for compliance with specifications. Coordinate DFA QA&C Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Documents System for issuing, distribution, compliance, and review of SOPs and SSOPs by appropriate departments. Participate on the HACCP committee and review related documentation daily. Participate on Quality and Operations Teams Directly supervise laboratory technicians, schedule hourly shifts, provide training and performance feedback. Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and arrange for repairs as needed. Develop, implement and maintain a systematic method of auditing analytical results (split sample testing program) Conduct physical and organoleptic evaluations of products and ingredients Direct the testing and analysis of routine and special products, trials, etc. and provide effective reports to involved parties (management, vendors, customers, etc.) Coordinate Environmental Pathogen Monitoring program Fill in when needed in the absence of a lab technician or during heavy volume times Generate and review daily quality reports identifying any items that need to be addressed, bringing these items to the attention of the appropriate people and ensure timely resolution Compile, review, and file finalized Process Deviation Reports. Develop, organize, and administer training for plant employees on GMP, HACCP, and related food safety topics. Direct activities of the plant laboratory Coordinate/Conduct facility audits, accompany investigators, and ensure corrective actions and follow-up reports are tracked and completed. Includes physical inspection of equipment, buildings, and facility grounds for internal, regulatory, or customer audits. Conduct investigations into incidents, quality issues, and complaints. Document findings, perform root cause corrective action / preventative action, trend analysis, and communicate to management, employees, and customers as appropriate. Review laboratory and production documents daily to assess the quality of products, determine that products meet customer specifications, and approve products for release to customers. Coordinate shipping of samples to customers as needed. Convey company, facility, and department goals to employees. Track and report on plant quality Key Performance Indicators. Work with plant employees on Good Manufacturing, Sanitation Practices, and Safety Attend seminars to develop skills needed to improve job performance. Other tasks as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
BS or BA in related field (Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, etc.). 5 years related experience in a plant environment preferred (food-production laboratory, quality control or compliance)
 Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to use P&L results and Key Performance Indicators (KPI"S) to improve plant performance. Ability to problem-solve, perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions in place using the combined talents of various individuals within the Dairy Farmers of America organization. Excellent team building skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task Ability to analyze data and generate effective reports Ability to understand food industry regulations and their impact on the organization Attention to detail and effective follow-through Ability to interact in a positive way with all personnel within Dairy Farmers of America and with our customers.
