 1. PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

PURPOSE:
 
 
  To assure the development and implementation of functional, cost effective packaging concepts, designed with the highest quality materials and graphics, to comply with food safety and regulatory requirements and to promote new business development.
     
 RESPONSIBILITIES:
   
 
  • Plan and execute food and packaging development projects.
  • Assure that all packaging meets food safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with R&D and New Product Development to identify packaging needs and feasibility early in the product development process.
  • Develop packaging for new products that is cost effective in terms of material and labor, as well as meeting shipping considerations and configurations for shipment to various countries.
  • Identify and implement packaging cost saving opportunities and improvement across the entire product line and customer base.
  • Create and design packaging with outside vendors, including creating Sweet Street Desserts' specifications.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to bid packaging requirements to specifications with multiple vendors.
  • Source new vendors and materials in collaboration with Purchasing.
  • Test and analyze results of new packaging and make recommendations accordingly.
  • Identify new and emerging packaging concepts and provide recommendations for future pursuits as well as improvements to existing packaging.
  • Coordinate packaging design and integrate with in-house equipment or propose new equipment to support use of new packaging concepts.
  • Work with Purchasing to analyze ordering quantities for the most economical pricing.
  • Identify packaging material problems and resolve issues of quality, performance and supply with vendors.
  • Coordinate packaging concepts with R&D, Engineering, Marketing, Purchasing, Production and Quality Assurance.
     
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  
  -       B.S. degree in Packaging Engineering or related engineering de.
-      Minimum of five years of experience working with packaging design and sourcing in food or similar manufacturing environment
-       Working knowledge of manufacturing and packaging engineering concepts and equipment.
-       Proficiency in computer use for project management, reporting and presentation, includingCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Power Point.
