Senior Solution Architect

The IBM – Resource on Demand Team is seeking a Senior Solution Architect for a contract opportunity in the Ottawa area

Role description: As a member of the Solution Architecture team - you will be  asked to (but are not limited to)
  • Provide business and solution architectural advice to the clients when they are considering enhancements and fixes proposed by their users or industry partners;
  • Provide technical information to enable the Project Manager to perform the assessment of client requests and provide recommendations for changes to the SA and the YDP;
  • Assist the Project Manager in producing the Project Implementation Plan;
  • Assist the Project Manager in managing issues relevant to the solution;
  • Develop the technical strategy to ensure integration between all aspects of the solution and other areas;
  • Review the deliverables of industry partners;
  • Respond to Clients’ and Industry partners’ questions;
  • Prepare for and hold Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Internal Design Reviews (IDR) and Client Design Reviews (CDR) in order to obtain the approval of the Solution Manager;
  • Provide technical guidance to the SAP Functional Analysts and other contractor resources for the finalization of the Business Process Design (BPD), the functional and technical specifications, Business Process Procedures (BPP), test scripts and training material;
  • Evaluate unit, integration and user acceptance test results and make recommendations for fixes;
  • Execute Knowledge Transfer Plan, as directed by the Project Manager; and
  • Assist the Project Manager in writing the Monthly Progress Report documenting progress against this task.

Mandatory Skills:
  • Canadian Federal Government Security Clearance – Secret
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience as a Solution Architect
  • Experience must include at minimum  50% of the tasks - clearly demonstarted in the  resume - listed below .
    • Developing technical architectures, frameworks and strategies, either for an organization or for a major application area, to meet the business and application requirements;
    • Developing and submitting an Implementation Plan for system expansion, including estimates of time, cost and scope;
    • Identifying the policies and requirements that drive out a particular solution in SAP;
    • Analyzing and evaluating alternative technology solutions to meet business problems;
    • Providing advice on implementation of leading practices within the SAP enterprise system;
    • Ensuring the integration of all aspects of technological solutions;
    • Monitoring industry trends to ensure that solutions fit with government and industry directions for technology;
    • Analyzing and validateing functional requirements to identify information, procedures and decision flows;
    • Evaluating existing procedures and methods, identifing and documenting database content, structure, and application sub-systems, and developing data dictionary;
    • Validating and alignning interfaces of manual to automated operations within application sub‑systems, to external systems and between new and existing systems;
    • Validating and aligning input/output sources, including detailed plan for technical design phase, and obtaining approval of the system proposal;
    • Providing technical guidance to functional analysts in their area of expertise;
    • Assisting the project manager in managing issues relevant to their solution areas; and
    • Validating and alignning solution options and recommendations based on User requirements.
    • Providing knowledge transfer to departmental personnel on an on-going basis.
