Nurse Practitioner - Trauma / Acute Care

Job Requirements:
  • Critical care nursing experience in ICU or ER
  • Experience as acute care NP
  • Experience as NP or RN with trauma patients
  • Masters/post masters degree in nursing or field related to nursing
  • Successful completion of a graduate program for the education and preparation of Nurse Practitioners
  • Current RN CA License
  • CA Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Current certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Possess a National Provider Identifier or have submitted an application
  • Possess a Furnishing Number and DEA number
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • PALS
  • must obtain ATLS certification within 6 months
  • Types of procedures required: Acute Care nurse practitioner on the trauma service. Manage trauma patients throughout continuum of care. Write H&P, daily progress notes, discharge instructions and discharge summaries. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic exams. Collaboration with trauma surgeon and nurse practitioners in the management of care of trauma patients.
  • Equipment utilized in the unit/dept.: Documentation in MediTech and image viewing in PACS system
  • Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required:
  • NP applicant must demonstrate successful completion of a graduate program for the education and preparation of Nurse Practitioners approved by the Board of Registered Nursing and possess a masters/post masters degree in nursing or field related to nursing.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Current certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the National Commission on Certification (NCC) or American Nurses Credentialing Center or within one (1) year of Nurse Practitioner graduate program.
  • Provide evidence of sixty (60) patient care activities in an acute care hospital setting or 200 patient care activities in an outpatient setting, reflective of the scope of practice prerogatives requested, within the past two (2) years at a Joint Commission, DNV Healthcare, or CMS accredited facility or demonstrate successful completion an accredited Nurse Practitioner graduate program within the past two (2) years(rotations).
  • Possess a National Provider Identifier or have submitted an application.
  • Possess a Furnishing Number and DEA number.
  • Evidence of 30 hours of CE credits every two (2) years related to the practice prerogatives requested.
  • Evidence of current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications; must obtain ATLS certification within 6 months of being granted practice prerogatives.
  • Floating to other units/departments: Trauma Service
  • Dress Code: Scrubs
  • Tell us about the unit/department specific training and orientation program.
  • Orientation with trauma nurse practitioner. Candidate should be familiar with management of patients. Orientation will be to the trauma service, documentation and the hospital.
