Do you like challenges? Hate being bored? Life moves fast on our med-Surg unit, and you must be prepared to keep up with a constantly changing environment. Med/Surg Nurses provide care for primarily adult patients before and after surgical procedures; they also attend to those who are being treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness. Due to the broad range of medical conditions Med/Surg Nurses encounter, you'll quickly amass a broad knowledge base and will be able to easily transition into other specialties, if you so desire. In addition to excellent nursing skills, med-surg nurses need top-notch organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

Required skills and minimum years of experience.
1+ years depending on level of nursing needed.
Education: Graduation from accredited Nursing Program. Completes annual educational requirements
•Experience: Successful applicant will show demonstrated success in critical thinking skills. Please see the below experience levels RN I, RN II and RN III.
oRN II: Independently plans and implements routine nursing care in predictable situations using standards. Begins to assume leadership responsibility. Needs minimal supervision. Advancement from RN I or a minimum of one (1) year continuous recent experience in a comparable patient care setting.
oRN III: Plans and implements nursing care, individualizing care as needed, without supervision. Able to manage routine and emergency care. Assumes basic leadership responsibilities. Advancement from RN II or a minimum of 3 years current acute care experience 2 of which are in primary unit specialty.

4.Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required.
•License(s): Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse licensure (must meet education requirement(s) for Alaska State licensure).
•Certification(s): Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate.

Shift or schedule requirements.
Shifts are varied, but typically 3 12 hour shifts 7am - 7:30pm, or 7:00pm to 7:30am, and on call night shifts

Floating to other units/departments.

Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit.
6 patients to 1 RN

Dress Code:
need to wear your own set of scrubs. All colors are approved except for royal blue, forest green, and bright red.
