Sr Developer

Duties and responsibilities
  • Execute CAI's best-practices application-support methodology
  • Write, analyze, review, and modify highly complex programs.
  • Ensure current, complete, and accurate system, application, and process documentation.
  • Enhance, support, and maintain existing applications
  • Troubleshoot production business-hours and off-hours issues and provide solutions
  • Write testable, efficient code by using software development best practices
  • Perform quality assurance testing including User Acceptance Testing
  • Collaborate with customers, business analysts, partners, and IT team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions
  • Mentor/coach junior members of the team
  • Serves as technical subject matter expert for assigned applications, components, modules, and technologies
Experience/Education - Required:
  • 6+ years' experience as a Mainframe Programmer, Programmer/Analyst, or related role
Experience/Education - Preferred:
  • Prior IT experience with State Government
  • Prior experience with financial systems
  • Prior experience with FLAIR financial system

–Required Skills:
  • Extensive hands on programming experience with COBOL programming language
  • Expertise in IBM mainframe environments and technologies
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to translate business requirements into code in compliance with defined development standards including all code documentation
  • Strong understanding of programming best practices and industry standards
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform role without regular need of guidance, coaching, or instruction

Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to write and execute test plans
  • 3+ years' experience with Natural programming language
  • 10+ years' experience with COBOL programming language
  • 6+ years' experience with DB2 database
  • Hands-on experience with NaturalOne integrated development environment (IDE) by Software AG


Physical Demands:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard and monitor
