Roles and Responsibilities:
  • The Veterinary Technician is responsible for the care and maintenance of animate and cadaveric models before, during and after laboratory sessions.
  • They work closely with the Director and other veterinary and laboratory staff to support training programs.
Anesthesia Assistance:
  • Administration of anesthesia: induction, maintenance, and emergent management.
  • Sets up anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment for surgeries.
  • Animal care and surgical preparation under veterinary supervision including vascular access and monitoring, sedation, intubation, and other skills.
  • Intra operative monitoring of vital statistics, fluids, drug administration, surgical interventions.
Laboratory Support:
  • Maintain a clean and safe surgical working environment.
  • Support customer training and product development activities.
  • Assists and instructs consulting veterinary technicians.
  • Participate in animal care review meetings and support development of standard operating procedures in area of knowledge.
Maintenance and Inventory:
  • Maintains inventory of surgical and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Maintains anesthesia records pre-, intra-, and postoperatively.
  • Arranges repairs for anesthesia equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs for anesthesia equipment.
  • Assist staff in support of all training center functions.
Skill / Job Requirements:
  • Two years experience in veterinary anesthesia and surgical procedures.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician preferred.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, medical disease states, surgical applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Skilled with large animal care and emergency care techniques.
  • Experience with surgical preparation and operative monitoring required.
  • Must be willing to work with human cadaveric specimens.
