The Assistant Resident Engineer will work for our client, a leading civil engineering firm, established in 1999 and recently voted as one of the Top 25 Engineering firms by NJ Biz. This firm has steadily grown through continuous repeat business and the addition of new clients based on a solid reputation for providing quality service. The diverse staff includes a team of respected engineers, inspectors, and technicians spread out throughout New Jersey and New York. Efforts include some of the largest transportation projects in the New York Metropolitan area such as the Raising of the Bayonne Bridge, Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing, NJ Turnpike Widening, and Fulton Street Transit Center.

Job Description:
Reporting to the Senior Engineer of Construction for PATH and PORTS, the position will be at the Resident Engineer's offices at the Journal Square Transportation Center.  The work will be primarily supervising staff and managing the day-to-day activities as it relates to engineering/construction as well as administrative/financial matters.  Building construction and train systems knowledge!  Concrete, paving, structural, with some electrical, MEP and finishes knowledge.     

The Assistant Resident Engineer must have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written to the Resident Engineer, other Port Authority Engineers and staff, contractors/consultants, etc. Ability to conduct preconstruction and construction meetings, coordinate multiple work locations, perform audit inspection throughout the construction process, coordinate for quality assurance inspection of completed work.  Verify safety procedures are maintained.
 
In addition, the ARE will be responsible for managing 6-10 direct reports consisting of Civil/Structural Engineers, Electrical/Mechanical Engineers, Office Engineer and Construction Inspectors.  The ARE will be responsible for assuring all submittals, schedules, insurance, and other contract requirements are submitted and approved by the responsible stakeholders.  The ARE shall keep the Resident Engineer informed on all contract discrepancies and differing field conditions.  consultants and other stakeholders.  The ARE shall be able to stand in for the Resident Engineer as needed. ​


Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Civil and / or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of fifteen years or more experience in construction management and inspection.  Construction experience must include concrete and reinforcing placement, structural steel, asphalt, drainage and building construction.  
  • PE License or RA desired but not required.  
  • OSHA 10 hour safety certification or more required
  • Ability to pass a SWAC background check
  • Valid Driver's license required
