SCOM Engineer

The SCOM Engineer will be responsible for collaborating with service engineers, vendor support, and customers to determine requirements for filters, events, alerts, and dashboards and reporting in various monitoring tools or developing new alerts when existing management packs do not suffice. Additional Skills required - Good Communication, ability to drive initiative, self-motivated, ability to build relationship with various stakeholders, Accountable and Resourceful – to be able to find answers or help
  • Create and install custom Management Packs (MP) as needed using XML, VS, Silect, or other tool.
  • Perform installation (of new versions of OM) and administrative tasks for the existing Operation Manager environment including console, provide application support for the SCOM platform and create and maintain monitoring and notification rules.
  • Review and update SCOM console security, apply patches, create SCOM console roles and reviews, and Management Packs
  • Deliver SCOM custom reports on results of SCOM monitoring, using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) technologies, and provide problem resolution for SCOM components and related custom scripts.
  • Proficiency in Agile development
  • Comprehensive knowledge of problem analysis, and design and programming techniques.
  • Should have excellent communication skills and continuously work with business stakeholders to come up with quick solutions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, engaging peers and other teams to accomplish assigned goals and effectively manage projects in a cross-functional environment.
  • Should be an individual contributor with excellent hands on in coding and debugging
  • Should be able to mentor a vendor team of 3+ people (some offshore team)
  • Should be able to think ahead and anticipate problems, issues and solutions
  • Should be able to work on production issues and adhere to SLA's
  • Should be comfortable working with offshore in different time zones
  • Code independently and solve technical problems
  • Should have Excellent Communication Skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3-5 years IT experience managing deployment of technology components in a specific technical discipline: clients, servers, storage, web platforms, database platforms, security, networks, or communications ideally with a mix of skills that include technical architectures, engineering and operations experience
A career track record of engineering, developing, deploying, and maintaining business critical systems in the area of technical expertise including hands on solution development and implementation experience
Self-motivated, with keen attention to detail and excellent judgment skills
Ability to establish new standards for quality, performance or productivity
Must have excellent writing and communication skills, strong communicator with ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, contractors, managers, 3rd parties, and customers as needed
Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner
Able to prioritize and drive to results with a high emphasis on quality

Experience with the installation and administration of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2012/2016
Experience in application/network performance and availability monitoring
Experience using the Microsoft Windows PowerShell scripting engine to automate tasks with SCOM
Experience with System Center Service Manager Automation 2012/2016
Experience with major Microsoft technologies including PC and server operating systems, Active Directory, SQL Server, and Office
Knowledge of server virtualization technologies, preferably Hyper-V
Knowledge of multiple processor systems, RAID hardware, SCSI attached, and storage area network solutions, preferably experience with Client hardware.
Knowledge of LAN/WAN network infrastructure technologies
Knowledge of HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP, SMTP, DNS, SSH, TELNET, SNMP, FTP
