Job description.
  • Provide technical expertise on a broad range of embedded modules and systems, advocate/implement software solutions and act with little guidance to deliver software and documentation.
  • Work with direction from management, learn and adapt to new methodologies and technologies, and work as a team member in all software related matters. The Senior Software Engineer's responsibilities extend to the design, development, & verification of new and existing high-performance, medical instrumentation.
  • Research requirements may include physical characteristics of products where methods, instrumentation or computerized data acquisition setup, typical of a software engineer's knowledge base is required.
  • Understand and calculate moderately complex algebraic relationships for use in control and communications of embedded microprocessor based systems.
  • Responsible for designing, developing and verification of embedded software to detailed requirements.
  • Design and develop an embedded software system, making specific determinations about system performance.
  • Provide support for all Advanced Energy software testing performed by R&D (including off-site lab testing), QA (including returned product analysis), and Operations (including off-site OEM testing). Support may include anything from performing tests to composing protocols or recommending proper instrumentation and practices.
  • Support the Sales and Marketing departments by providing the text for the instructions for use and assuring the accuracy of the software / technical content of the "information to user” documents for the various Advanced Energy products.
  • Provide back-up telephone support of the sales force by answering questions related to pre- or intra-operative software generator set up, requiring a working knowledge current products, as well as that of all major competitive generator products.
  • Support the QA and Regulatory departments as a resource for applying and communicating the software requirements of both domestic and international standards documents (e.g. IEC, ISO, CSA, UL etc.) as they relate to Advanced Energy medical devices. May include planning, conducting or overseeing any required software testing, both on and off site. Also provide technical support and representation for any software issues which may arise (such as during the annual TUV audit).
  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 4+ years' experience with product development and improvement responsibilities
  • Background in medical devices is preferred
  • Masters in SE or equivalent
  • Embedded Software design experience
  • Extensive knowledge of IEC 60601-2-2 & IEC 62304
  • Extensive knowledge of Unit Test methodology and Bug Tracking software systems
  • Experience and knowledge of software development lifecycle process related to devices for the medical industry
  • Past experience in C and C++ programming languages.
