Receives, sorts and distributes incoming postal and interoffice mail; collects, prepares outgoing mail by wrapping packages, computing and applying postage, completing required post office forms, and logging required data such as registered and classified mail. Re-addresses misdirected mail; runs errands; maintains employee rosters and location lists; and may maintain petty cash fund for sale of stamps. May operate light vehicles to pick up and delivery mail. Limited supervision. No instructions are needed on routine work, and only general instructions are given on new lines of work or special assignments. Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and receiving duties; may work out of a central warehouse. Uses computer system for tracking, logging, verifying and reporting. Follows shipping practices and procedures, and transportation routing, schedules and requirements. Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment. (Un)packs or (un)wraps items such as finished products, raw stock, assemblies, parts, building materials, office supplies, equipment, etc. Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials to stated identifications; logs receipt of items on system, processes freight bills, packing sheets, and other documents; reports materials shipped and bills of lading; posts weight and shipping charges and routes merchandise to destinations.
High School diploma, or equivalent experience/combined education, with additional specialized training in specific aspects of job functions and/or demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks and 3 Years of experience. Secret Clearance is required to make classified deliveries to and from the post office. Must have a valid and current drivers license.
Independently performs non-routine and moderately complex assignments. Researches assignments, processes, and analyzes data and may develop recommendations. Competently uses computers and other systems to access, maintain, manipulate data. May provide leadership, direction to lower level employees. In technical or production positions, may determine methods, operations, sequences; develops and/or modifies products and equipment to requirements. Fork lift experience.
