GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Regional Cancer Registry Manager is responsible for planning and organizing the Cancer Committee, and Cancer Conferences for Florida Hospital Tampa, and Cancer Registry operations for Florida Hospital Tampa, Carrollwood, North Pinellas, Wesley Chapel, and Heartland facilities. The cancer registry manager will also have collaborative input into the local region cancer programs. 
 
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Supervises and aids in performing the daily Cancer Registry operations including workflow and abstracting of reportable cases within the timeframe dictated by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) and Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS).
  • Monitors follow-up of all living analytic cases to ensure compliance.
  • Interfaces with various departments to ensure that cancer-related information is available for the Cancer Registry in a timely manner.
  • Develops policies and procedures utilized in the Cancer Registry.
  • Manages the set-up and on-going operations of the Cancer Registry system-wide.  Supervises and ensures that Cancer Registry services are carried out on all campuses in accordance with applicable policies and procedures as well as ACoS and Florida state requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with the accreditation standards (CoC) for an approved Cancer Program as established by the American College of Surgeons (ACoC) on an annual basis.
  • Responsible for preparing and coordinating the accreditation survey. 
  • Reports registry activities to the cancer committee as outlined in the COC standards.
  • Assists the medical staff and administration in planning, developing, coordinating and implementing new programs to enhance the Cancer Program. 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of cancer-related in-service programs for various community and hospital groups. 
  • Works with hospital staff in reviewing facility data through NCDB tools, identifying needs for data review and improvements.
  • Monitors the computerized cancer data management system to ensure completeness and accuracy in reporting of the hospital’s reportable cases. 
  • Ensures that all computer upgrades received from the software vendors are loaded and working properly.  Interfaces with Information Systems to ensure that all Cancer Registry computer functions and enhancements are working properly. Maintains documentation and monitors submission to the SAR as directed by the ACoS throughout the year.
  • Ensures data submissions to NCDB are timely and accurate.
  • Ensures data submission to the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS) on a monthly basis.
  • Designs narrative and statistical reports for administration and the medical staff for use in program planning, development and end-results studies.
  • Performs supervisory duties in monitoring and documenting employee performance and annual evaluations.
  • Performs employee counseling and disciplinary action.
  • Participates in the recruitment, orientation, evaluation and termination of personnel.
  • Utilizes progressive counseling to develop or discipline employees as necessary.
  • Provides assurance that the staff adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan, to the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.  
  • Supervises the cancer data management system to promote quality care for the cancer patients. 
  • Conducts QA of registry data on a routine basis through manual review of abstracts, data analysis, and site specific indicators.  Provides feedback and education to abstractors based on results of the review.
  • Oversees coordination the Cancer Conference including speakers, imaging and pathology presentations.  Books locations of all weekly conferences.  Coordinates with Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Nursing Education for educational credit on all Cancer Conferences.
  • Develops, prepares, and allocates the annual operational and capital budgets.  Evaluates, analyzes and follows-through on the monthly financial reports, and takes action to improve cost-effective care.
  • Confidential information is routinely used in normal performance of the day’s work.  Requires knowledge of and compliance with departmental/hospital policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, Patient Bill of Rights, EMTALA and HIPAA.
  • Frequent contact with staff members, patients, patients’ families and physicians.  Frequent contact with other healthcare providers and other hospital department personnel.  Contacts may be stressful.  Tact and courtesy is essential to create and maintain good will. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Computer proficiency required.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Associates or Bachelor of Business Administration degree or healthcare related field preferred. 
  • Or minimum two years of college level education in the medical field such as ART, RHIT, RN, LPN, RT or RT(T).  
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Two years of experience as a medical office manager preferred.
Five years experience as a manager in a hospital-based cancer registry.
Experience in management of multiple practices desirable.
Must have knowledge of JCAHO requirements and local, state, and federal regulations.
 
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
 
  • Certification in Cancer Registry (C.T.R.) is required.
  • Driver’s License required.
