Summary:
The Database Administrator, "Administrator , is responsible for administering Oracle and SQL databases. The Administrator creates and supports databases, manages database performance, and troubleshoots database errors. The Administrator participates in computer application projects and is responsible for performing database related activities for the project. The Administrator interacts with users when diagnosing application issues. This individual may also work with software and hardware vendors or consultants when performing database related activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Administers Microsoft SQL database servers
  • Administers Oracle database servers and instances
  • Writes stored procedures, functions and views
  • Writes T-SQL and PL/SQL scripts
  • Troubleshoots and resolves database issues
  • Performs database tuning and optimization
  • Performs database backups, restores, exports, imports and recovery models
  • Gathers and analyzes database performance statistics
  • Performs database updates and patching
  • Maintains database firewall software
  • Ensures database information security and integrity
  • Executes computer systems validation documents (Test Scripts, Data Migration Scripts, Change Controls)
Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate's degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in the Information Technology field and at least 3 years as a Microsoft SQL*Server or Oracle Database Administrator preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: none
Qualifications:
  • Microsoft SQL*Server or Oracle Administrator certification.
  • Previous experience troubleshooting T-SQL and PL/SQL Code.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server.
Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Proficiency with MS SQL Management Studio
  • Proficiency with SQL Plus or Toad for Oracle or SQL Developer
  • Basic knowledge of SQL Profiler
  • Familiarity with SQL Engine Tuning Advisor
  • Familiarity with .NET
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • One or more of the following certifications is preferred: MCSA, OCP/OCM
