Windows Server Engineer

 Key Skills to know:
  1. VMWare ESX/VSphere - need to have worked in a big VM environment.

Roles:
  • We really need someone that can follow directions and be guided by senor technical staff. 
  • Verbal and written communication and the ability to work with other teams is essential.
  • The Engineer has responsibility for operational, troubleshooting and engineering support of Windows servers and supported applications.
Responsibilities: 
The Windows Server Team Engineer is responsible for the following primary elements of server Problem Resolution: 
  • Adherence to change and incident management processes.
  • Work the incident queue to resolve L3 tickets.
  • Submit RFCs for all changes made in the environment, following documented procedures
  • Provide hands-on support and engineering work in the Windows 2008/2012 server environment
  • Provide hands-on support and engineering work in the VMware 5.5 environment
  • Ability to be part of a team and follow instructions accurately and effectively
  • Good verbal and written communications as the engineer will need to interface with the Windows management and the PMO to report status
  • Be an escalation point for the Desktop management and End User Services teams.
  • Work closely with them to develop solutions
  • Work on project requests and ensuring the Windows management team is kept informed of all project requests that are received
  • Establishing automated corrective action for server problems where possible
  • Server hardware and rack / stack experience
  • Assist with Client server connectivity issues.
  • On-call after hours support for server systems to be performed on a rotation basis
  • Perform account audits, log reviews, system file audits, patch audits, service audits and ports/protocol analysis for servers that must remain operational.
  • Review results of such reviews and audits with the project lead(s)
  • Remove unnecessary and unwanted files, applications, services and accounts.
  • Document all such activity in a network device change log
Qualifications: 
  • 5 years minimum IT experience
  • MCITP on Windows Server 2008 or above certification required.
  • 5 years minimum experience in an enterprise server environment with both administration and problem resolution of Microsoft Windows Server 2012 required.
  • 5 years minimum working with VMWare products.
  • Experience supporting a large VMware environment
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and experience adhering to them in a production environment
  • Windows Server 2008/2012 Active Directory management including DNS, GPO expertise required.
  • Professional attitude, appearance and communication skills required
  • Management of a large Windows 200/2012 environment (5000 objects minimum) including modification of thousands of users utilizing standard scripting tools is desired.
