Software Engineer

Viome is a wellness as a service company that applies artificial intelligence and machine learning to biological data – e.g., microbiome, transcriptome and metabolome data – to provide personalized recommendations for healthy living. We are a small, fast growing, interdisciplinary team of passionate experts in biochemistry, microbiology, medicine, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Since Viome was formed in October 2016, we have already established high-tech laboratories, have offices in four states, and offer a commercial product that has generated high demand.

We are looking for an AI Engineer in Viome's NYC Office to build a world-class AI system that recommends specific diet regimes that address each customer's wellness goal, given their microbial & metabolic profile.

Responsibilities include:
  • Building a large-scale system using advanced data systems including cloud data stores and massive data sets, and distributed technologies including queuing & messaging
  • Working closely with an AI team that is building a machine learning and reasoning system using NLP and KRR, and incorporate results into the software system
  • Collaborating with domain experts in biology and medicine for requirements and validations, as well as with other software engineers to drive regular releases on AWS
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science with a focus on software engineering, database and distributed systems. A Master's degree and additional experience are a plus
  • Requires a solid understanding of data-centric systems and top-notch programming experience, with the ability to absorb the latest practices in software engineering
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, where you can dive in and deliver results quickly
Desired Experience:
  • Experience with software development lifecycles and design patterns, with successful engineering and deployment of large-scale systems in a commercial environment
  • Experience with web services and related APIs, e.g. RESTful Web APIs, SOAP-based Web services, as well as advanced distributed systems technologies, e.g. RabbitMQ, Enduro/X
  • Experience with security of medical data such as HIPAA compliance is a plus, including encrypting data at rest, using SSL, and encrypted storage
