Mortgage loan officers specialize in loans used to buy real estate (property and buildings). Mortgage loan officers work on loans for both residential and commercial properties. Often, mortgage loan officers must seek out clients, which requires developing relationships with real estate companies and other sources that can refer prospective applicants.

Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related field preferred or equivalent experience

Minimum of two years' work related experience

Demonstrated capability of producing and increasing bank customer business or experience managing a customer portfolio

Experience with Jack Henry, CRM software, or financial planning software.

Proficient with Excel, Word, & PowerPoint

The work of mortgage loan officers has sizable customer-service and sales components. Loan officers often answer questions and guide customers through the application process. In addition, they must market the products and services of the bank and actively solicit new business.

Analyze potential loan markets and develop referral networks to locate prospects for loans.

Analyze applicants' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting loans.

Obtain, verify, and analyze the applicant's financial information, such as the credit rating and income level

Review loan agreements to ensure that they comply with federal and state regulations

Obtain and compile copies of loan applicants' credit histories, corporate financial statements, and other financial information.

Meet with applicants to obtain information for loan applications and to answer questions about the process.

Explain to customers the different types of loans and credit options that are available, as well as the terms of those services.

Review loan agreements to ensure that they are complete and accurate according to policy.

Approve loans within specified limits, and refer loan applications outside those limits to management for approval.

Handle customer complaints and take appropriate action to resolve them.

Review and update credit and loan files.

Submit applications to credit analysts for verification and recommendation.

Compute payment schedules.

Confer with loan administrators or underwriters to aid in resolving mortgage application problems.

Market bank products to individuals and firms, promoting bank services that may meet customers' needs.

Negotiate payment arrangements with customers who have delinquent loans.

Prepare reports to send to customers whose accounts are delinquent, and forward irreconcilable accounts for collector action.

Actively participates in Field & Main's sales, service & product training meetings

Represents the financial institution in community affairs & civic organizations

Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.

Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment

Strong customer relationship building abilities.

Comprehensive knowledge of lending services & compliance.

Excellent interpersonal, communication & organizational skills.

Good understanding of financial products & services.

Problem Solving skills and ability to recognize and focus on critical issues, Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Sales experience, particularly in cross-selling products & services. Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems
