We are looking for a Mortgage Underwriter to join forces with Bank 34, an innovative 82-year old Federally Chartered Bank. We are dedicated to providing a stable professional work environment, great benefits and a career path with opportunities for advancement.The Underwriter is highly organized and is responsible for reviewing loan files for accuracy and completeness in accordance with specified lender guidelines. The ideal candidate must have current in-depth understanding and the ability to underwrite mortgage loans per multiple investor requirements for FHA/VA and conventional loans and have their DE and SAR designations. This position is responsible for ensuring loan files are compliant with Bank policies and multiple investor guidelines. This individual must be organized and effective working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, mortgage lending operations environment.Initial responsibilities and focus include:
  • Receives loan files purchased and originated by the financial institution and reviews files for all necessary forms and information according to Client and FHLMC underwriting guidelines.
  • Analyzes applicant's financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan. Submits application to credit analyst for verification and recommendation.
  • Assures compliance with credit policy
  • Makes an underwriting decision for each loan.
  • Confers with loan officer to aid in resolving mortgage application problems.
  • Communicates with outside mortgage firms, financial institution mortgage loan officers and customers of the financial institution to underwrite files properly.
  • Keeps informed of current underwriting practices and assists in updating the financial institution's underwriting policies.
  • Prepares records and reports as requested regarding loan file activity.
  • Knowledge of basic lending and underwriting policies and procedures, including guidelines issued by Client and FHLMC.
Additionally, this position will work closely with management to optimize procedures, transaction workflow, and ensure a high level customer satisfaction.
Key Qualifications
  • Must have 5-10 years of recent experience underwriting conventional and/or FHA/VA mortgage loans and have DE and SAR designations.
  • Must be familiar with mortgage lending, mortgage investors and individual programs, mortgage insurance and basic policies and procedures,
  • Independently develop an efficient workflow,
