The Mortgage Loan Underwriter ( "MU”) will perform a variety of duties associated with Residential First Mortgage Loans. The MU's primary responsibility is to underwrite loans up to his or her level of approval authority as noted in the Consumer Loan Policy. This individual should be able to make sound credit decisions using experience and judgment to accomplish goals. It is extremely important that this individual make sound credit decisions that will not cause financial hardship to the Credit Union. While sound decisions are necessary, it is also important that the MU adhere to the designated response times in meeting the established standards to assure member satisfaction. This individual has a broad knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures on mortgage lending. They must be capable of explaining or discussing these items in detail in an articulate manner to internal and external members.

It is critical that the MU is an expert in all mortgage lending operations including but not limited to: MortgageBot and BytePro as well as Client DU and other related systems. This individual should continually look to improve products and services as well as be willing to serve on cross-functional teams to meet our goals. Participation by this individual at department meetings is encouraged and demonstrates his or her willingness to contribute to the team.

The hours for this position are subject to change depending on work volume and the needs of our membership. This individual must be flexible and available to work until the daily volume is completed based on standards set by Management.


Associates Degree preferred along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a residential first mortgage underwriting environment. Well versed in Client guidelines and working knowledge of Desktop Underwriter is required. Detail oriented, analytical skills, aptitude for figures, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), function with minimum supervision, possess a positive attitude, and impart a team player mentality. Employee must meet and maintain all requirements as a registered mortgage loan originator employed by a Federally regulated Institution with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS).
