Senior Mortgage Underwriter (Centreville Bank)

Under the general supervision of the Consumer Lending Manager, the incumbent manages the loan processors, underwriters and loan closers. He/she performs a wide variety of duties related to incoming applications consistent with internal policies, mortgage underwriting guidelines, commitments and verifying supporting documentation as submitted by mortgage originators as well as determines the economic health of applicant's financial condition, employment details of the applicant and reviewing the applicant's credit history score.
Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Supports and directs the training of the processors, underwriters and closers; manages and coaches the processing, underwriting and closing staff.
  • Evaluates the staff to ensure loans are processed, approved, closed and funded in complete accordance with bank, federal, state and regulatory standards to meet or exceed Bank standards.
  • Monitors incoming volume and balances the pipeline.
  • Acts as a liaison between Loan Officers and the Vice President of Consumer Lending.
  • Updates the Vice President and Senior Vice President of Consumer Lending on the status of all loans in the pipeline.
  • Assists with processing and underwriting as needed.
  • Adheres to standards consistent with Bank policies and procedures.
  • Meets customer standards for all loans as required by the Bank and the Senior Vice President of Consumer Lending.
  • Maintains working knowledge of Client guidelines and Desktop Underwriter, as well as, regulatory mortgage compliance and federal and state regulations.
  • Uses judgment and has decision making ability on secured loans up to $150,000 and up to $15,000 on unsecured loans.
  • Works with closer/post closer on construction advances and close outs.
  • Assists in identifying, recommending and or negotiating alternative loan requirements.
  • Assesses loan attributes and documentation for soundness and accuracy.
  • Identifies quality control trends and provides training to the processing, underwriting and closing staff as needed.
  • Performs required Vendor Management and LSA tasks as required.
  • Works to develop and increase skills and knowledge of all the underwriting, processing and closing/post-closing personnel.
  • Provides insight, direction and expertise to the underwriters, processors and closers/post closers.
  • Maintains and facilitates the accuracy and updates of Desktop Underwriter to the Bank's processing system.
  • Performs required attention to Remote Lender in conjunction with the Senior Vice President of Consumer Lending; performs weekly updates as required.
  • Ensures that established processing times, pipeline reports and exceptions are viewed and kept within the appropriate guidelines.
  • Comply with all Federal and State Regulations, and internal banking procedures.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma is required and 5 - 10 years related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and credit bureau reports.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong relationship skills and the ability to influence business and functional partners.
  • Capability to multitask and work on a variety of projects and teams is essential.
  • The ability to analyze, interpret, and comprehend detailed processes, reports, and procedures are required. Incumbent is required to understand work flow processes.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Word, Excel and spreadsheets.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • 10 - 15 years related experience.
