Open Mortgage is currently seeking a Mortgage Loan Underwriter Manager to join our team (Nationwide).

Underwrites mortgage loans in accordance with established policies and procedures and appropriate guidelines; examines all documentation for accuracy and completeness.

  • Screens loan applications to determine the appropriate funding source and program.
  • Calculates income for all types of borrowers, reviews complex tax returns and financial statements, analyzes various sources of funds, and establishes general creditworthiness of potential borrowers.
  • Reviews information provided in loan package; requests additional information as required.
  • Evaluates risk as it relates to borrowers, collateral, and transactions.
  • Provides final approval underwriting of conventional, VA, FHA, Client, Freddie Mac, and Rural Development mortgage loans including but not limited to lease holds, construction, non-owner occupied, condominiums, mortgage insurance secured, and higher risk loans.
  • Underwrites credit, capacity, and collateral in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Completes all required paperwork and forms in a timely and accurate manner; prepares required reports.
  • Maintains records, files, and database.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Experience and Credentials
  • DE Certified
  • Five plus years related experience or equivalent.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Thorough working knowledge of real estate documentation, policies, compliance, and procedures.
  • High level of proficiency with mortgage loan processing and underwriting systems.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Proficient on DU/DO/LP/GUS
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Remote based position (headquarters located in Austin, TX)
