Risk is present in all of Santander's activities and effective Risk Management is a critical component of the Bank's success. Through application of the Bank's Risk Framework and the continuous identification and assessment of risk, Santander seeks to ensure that all of our businesses operate inside of clearly established limits, are able to proactively quantify exposures, and take corrective action when required.

As a member of the Risk Management division, you'll be part of a diverse team of talented professionals who interact with senior risk team personnel, business managers and other Bank disciplines in order to understand business operations and dynamics, and analyze, monitor, and manage related risks.
Responsible for independently reviewing new commercial mortgage Loans secured by income producing properties throughout Santander Bank, N.A. ( "Santander ")'s footprint. The underwriting process formally assesses the risk rating of the proposed loan and, where needed and in concert with senior staff, structures the loan to conform to the Santander's credit risk management standards. Review and analyze due diligence items including cash flow, leverage, collateral condition, market trends, sponsor & ownership structure, financial projections. Prepare credit write-ups and present to approval committees. Reviews third-party reports and performs property inspections. Manage an active underwriting pipeline to properly communicate loan structure and timeline to client, broker and Santander management. Actively manage client relationship throughout the loan underwriting process. Maintain superior knowledge of credit policy items and Santander underwriting criteria. Train junior underwriters on real estate analysis, underwriting fundamentals and credit risk items.
  • Presents to various credit committees on current and prospective credits
  • Keeps abreast of overall trends in multifamily real estate markets
  • Reviews industry periodicals, Bank portfolio data and other materials/statistics to build and maintain current knowledge of factors that impact Banks underwriting of MF housing
  • Perform inspection to address collateral quality and necessary capital expenditures
  • Manage all aspects of transaction including client communication, borrower meetings and sponsor review
  • Manage pipeline of 10-15 loans and ensure proper timeline management and communication to client and senior management
  • Perform underwriting, credit analysis, negotiating and closing of multifamily and commercial real estate loans in order to satisfy production goals while maintaining credit quality and credit policy adherence
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent
  • MBA Preferred
  • 10+ years work experience as an underwriter or equivalent position working on commercial real estate originations - Office, Retail, Multi-Family
  • Ability to work independently and leverage professional relationships within and outside the bank
  • Broad exposure across financial services products, commercial segments and delivery channels
  • Demonstrated superior leadership, sales, presentation, interpersonal, negotiation and written and verbal communication skills
  • Full utilization of sales automation tools and related technologies
  • GSE multifamily underwriting criteria (Client, Freddie Mac, and FHA) a plus
  • Knowledge of commercial banking products and services (both credit and non-credit), Santander Banks Credit Policy and Procedures, competitor product lines and commercial compliance regulations
  • Knowledge of financial analysis, underwriting methods, risk evaluation, loan documentation and commercial loan collection activities
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
