Render credit decisions on incoming mortgage applications consistent with both secondary market and in house guidelines. Works with originators and management in finding ways to meet our customers first mortgage needs within fair lending regulations and within guidelines of our bank and secondary market.
Required Education/Knowledge: Preference is college graduate but at minimum require high school graduate or equivalent with proficiency in math/accounting. Superior knowledge of Client and Freddie Mac underwriting and selling guidelines. Superior knowledge of secondary market requirements for underwriting borrower(s) income derived from self employment including but not limited to schedule c, 1065, 1120s and 1120 c. Superior knowledge and understanding of local (NC and SC) real estate trends and property values. Preferred Education/Knowledge:
General knowledge of other areas of a large community bank and its operations.
R equired Experience:
Five years plus senior level experience underwriting conforming and jumbo loans with superior knowledge and experience in using LP and DU automated underwriting systems approvals as well as manual underwriting approvals.
Three years plus underwriting experience in underwriting a community banks in house first mortgage loans that are not sold to secondary market but held by the community bank.
Preferred Experience: Broad general experience in other departments of a large community financial institution.

Manual dexterity is necessary. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.
Underwrites purchase and refinance first mortgage loans from an extensive base of customers, realtors, and builders sent in from loan originators. Insures all secondary mortgage loans they underwrite meet secondary market investor guidelines and are salable to specific investor. Insures all in house mortgage loans they underwrite meet Peoples Bank in house mortgage product and underwriting guidelines Insures that all credit applicants are dealt with in a non-discriminatory manner, especially with respect to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, age, receipt of public assistance income or a good faith exercise of any right under the Consumer Credit Protection Act. Works with loan originators, processors and management in problem solving relating to loan production and underwriting. Assist Mortgage Loan Department in dealing with loan closing and loan servicing problem solving. Aid in training of other mortgage underwriters as requested/needed Aid in training of processing staff as requested/needed. Maintains awareness of market conditions. Has a working knowledge of Peoples Bank mortgage software and computer system. Reviews property appraisals. Must stay up-to-date with respect to changes in secondary market guidelines.
