Mortgage Lending Correspondent Lending Underwriter III (BB&T)

Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Perform detailed pre-funding/pre-close underwriting analyses on all conforming, non-conforming, Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Administration (VA), and Rural Housing loans for credit, fraud, appraisal review, data/documentation deficiencies related to marketability and compliance with BB&T/Investor guidelines.
2. Perform detailed pre-funding/pre-close underwriting analyses on more complex mortgages exceeding the conforming loan limit and complex self-employed borrowers which pose higher credit risk.
3. Approve acceptable loans within delegated credit approval authority.
4. Provide assistance and direction to correspondents/other department personnel on issues regarding BB&T, Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FHLMC), Federal National Mortgage Association (Client), FHA, VA, and Rural Housing lending policies and compliance-related issues.
5. Request additional information, documentation and/or development from correspondents to ensure all loans underwritten and purchased meet BB&T/Investor guidelines.
6. Perform post-purchase credit and property reviews on loans purchased from correspondents with delegated underwriting authority.
7. Assist correspondents/other department personnel in interpreting underwriting guideline changes.
8. Assist correspondents/other underwriting personnel in analyzing complex mortgage and complex self-employed borrowers.
9. Correspond with Mortgage Insurance (MI) companies regarding loan approvals, securing required information, and clarifying BB&T/Investor guidelines.
Required Skills and Competencies:

1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Five years of experience in mortgage loan production, processing, closing or loan review
3. Three years of underwriting experience
4. Proven ability to communicate effectively and professionally
5. Proven ability to make accurate decisions within acceptable timeframes
6. Solid working knowledge of FHLMC/Client, FHA, VA and Rural Housing guidelines
7. Proficient problem-solving ability
8. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
9. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight

1. Five years of underwriting experience
