Job Summary:
Bell Bank Mortgage is looking for a Government Underwriter to work in our Minneapolis location. If you are a detailed and organized individual who enjoys a fun and fast paced work environment, look no further!
Primary Duties:
  • Complete conventional/government (HUD/VA/USDA) underwriting reviews in accordance with agency, investor, & appraisal guidelines in a timely manner insuring compliance, quality & meeting closing schedules.
  • Counsel production & processing staff on current & proposed loan submissions providing high level of customer service.
  • Respond to HUD and Investor audits and to defend unfavorable reviews or audits.
  • Work with Bell production staff in defining HUD Guidelines and discussing and or reviewing appraisals/credit submissions.
  • Review Government appraisals, validate the estimated value, add required repairs in accordance with Government Handbook instructions and to issue the final Conditional Commitment
  • Complete all underwriting reviews in a timely manner, insuring compliance and meeting the proposed closing schedules.
  • Additional Responsibilities as requested by Manager
Job Skills Required:
  • Five years mortgage underwriting experience required
  • Must be approved by the Department of Housing as a Direct Endorsement Underwriter and have the ability to sign loan approvals on behalf of the Agency and Bell Bank Mortgage
  • Thorough understanding of all agency & investor underwriting policies.
  • Ability to thoroughly review all conventional & government loan submissions & to independently make prudent lending decisions based on program guidelines.
  • Ability to review residential collateral (including condos) per agency and investor policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill to provide exceptional customer service
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others. Must be able to use a keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to review detailed documents and read computer screens.
