Mortgage Officer (Chemical Bank)

This is a position to solicit, service, and arrange for a wide variety of mortgage, real estate and construction loans. The principle responsibility of the lender is to meet with the customer to determine the best product and terms that will ensure success in the mortgage approval process. Decisions regarding documentation required for approval, fees and terms must be clearly communicated and the customer must leave the application process with proper disclosures and a thorough understanding of the steps that will ensue toward that end. S/he will communicate an outgoing and friendly professional demeanor not only to customers but to staff as well.

Work Hours

Work hours vary by business necessity but are generally Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position may require attendance at various bank/educational functions before, during, or after normal business hours.

Essential Job Functions
  • Originates services and arranges for a wide variety of mortgage, real-estate and construction loans.
  • Develops new business through contacts with realtors, builders and branch referrals.
  • Participates in related business development community activities in the assigned market.
  • System development, which includes the day to day knowledge and application of mortgage software including all applicable regulatory documents.
  • Working with managers and marketing coordinators to develop and implement a plan on an ongoing basis designed to enhance success.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of products offered by Chemical Bank and its primary investors.
Essential Skills for Performing the Job
  • Highly motivated and self starter.
  • Must have proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of mortgage products and loan documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products, mortgage origination software and the internet.
Scope of Responsibility/ Decision Making

Mortgage lenders will exercise judgment based upon their experience in the mortgage industry. S/he will typically make routine decisions without consulting higher level employees, though they generally discuss complex and unusual situations with their respective area sales manager. S/he should exercise common sense and good judgment in decision making and should understand the branch/department goals, standards, policies and procedures established by management. The title of Banker or Officer depends on skills and experience as identified by management.

Education/ Experience

Required: High School Graduate or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred. Candidates should have 2 years current and relevant mortgage lending experience, knowledge of FHA, Conventional, MSHDA and non-conforming loans.

Certification

Mortgage lenders coming to Chemical Bank from a previous position with an independent broker office must be fully registered and approved with the office of financial and insurance regulation with the State of Michigan. New lenders must be able to obtain a registration through fingerprinting and criminal background check in accordance with the office of financial and insurance regulation with the State of Michigan. A Notary Public is recommended.
