Mortgage Underwriter I / Junior Underwriter (Peoples Bank)

Location: Westerville, Ohio
Help assist the Underwriters in day to day activities. Support Underwriters, Processors and Loan Originators on a daily basis. Become familiar with other product guidelines as they become available.

  • Underwriting Help Desk - Research guidelines and provide answers to questions within 4 business hours
  • MGIC underwrites - Underwrite a conventional loan with MI and condition out accordingly. Package loan and upload to MGIC website. Work with processor to get loan clear to close.
  • Submit Jumbo loans to investor for underwriting. Work with processor to get loan clear to close. Review loan to allow lock to take place.
  • Brokered loans/Reverse loans - move through milestones. Review Dataverify for fraud/OFAC/EPLS
  • Mortgage credit underwriting and property evaluation
  • Perform timely reviews of stipulations and conditions submitted by Loan Processors
  • Analyze credit and financial statements to determine acceptability to program guidelines
  • Review appraisal and title reports for completeness and accuracy
  • Escalate major and more complex income and collateral/property evaluation conditions to Sr. Underwriter for review and acceptability
  • Utilize Automated Underwriting Systems to evaluate, score and render final credit underwriting decisions
  • Ensure loan documents are accurate, complete and sufficient to clear all conditions for final loan approval within delegated authority
  • Maintain appropriate turn-times and production standards by company's definition
  • Provide stellar customer service to all staff by effectively explaining credit decisions
  • Perform other job related duties and special projects as required
  • Prepare reports for review as needed
  • Assess fraud indicators as needed
  • Take MGIC classes as time permits
experience and skills:
  • Minimum 3 years Mortgage experience preferred
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of FHA-and VA- underwriting requirements preferred
  • Previous loan processing experience required

  • Proficiency with Client's Desktop Underwriter and Freddie Mac Loan Processor

  • Position takes place in an office environment
  • Position may require some overtime
  • Flexibility to assist with schedule shifts/shortages
