We are looking for experienced mortgage professionals in sales, operations and capital markets who have a passion for delivering the highest level of customer care while working in a growing, fast-paced lending business.

Reporting to the Manager, Underwriting, the DE Underwriter is responsible for examining, reviewing and evaluating the information provided by all parties, assessing the customer's risk profile and making an informed decision whether to offer or decline terms for Homeward Funding residential loan products according to the companies underwriting procedures and guidelines and time frames. Responsible for making recommendations within personal underwriting authority and ensuring accurate records are maintained at all times.

Job Functions
  • Accurately assess the customer's risk profile, make an informed decision and ensure that accurate records are maintained at all times following the documented processes and agreed time-scales
  • Responsible for underwriting the customer's loan amount to agreed authorized levels without reference to a more senior underwriter
  • Refer all cases above agreed limits to an underwriter authorized on that limit for a second signature
  • Manage caseload within defined service levels agreements and customer service standards
  • Resolve underwriting queries from the business and deal directly with brokers and other external parties and deliver the highest levels of customer service at all times
  • Ensure that all activities meet and exceed regulatory requirements in accordance with Investor, State and or Federal guidelines
  • Keep up to date with any State, Federal, and Agency regulation changes as well as internal Company policies and procedures

  • Identify trends or issues and make recommendations to improve the underwriting process, products or customer service
  • Maintain an awareness of the mortgage marketplace and potential impacts on our business

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in loan underwriting - at least 3 years underwriting FHA loans
  • Must have thorough understanding of Client, FMLC, FHA & VA guidelines and be proficient with DO and LP
  • Must have an active CHUMS # for a minimum of 3 years
  • Strong decision making skills and ability to exercise judgment and make recommendations
  • Excellent relationship building and customer service skills
  • Highly organized and proven ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Results driven with great administration skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Flexible team player with a 'can do' attitude
