Mortgage Loan Originator (Interra Credit Union)

Assists the Credit Union in achieving its core mission: to be our members most trusted and valued financial resource , identifying members' financial needs and recommending solutions which would improve their financial lives. Projects a positive image as a representative of the Credit Union, specializing in the area of Residential Mortgage Lending. Provides superior member service to both internal and external members, enhancing member relationships and exceeding member expectations by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Promotes and participates in a sales and service culture consistent with the credit union's goal of exceeding expectations.

Loan Growth & Production (40%)

Meets specific mortgage production expectations on an ongoing basis. Ensures loans are being made within policy and procedure guidelines. Files will be audited and delinquency monitored to ensure that loans are meeting these standards.

Interviews member loan applicants to acquire information concerning mortgage loan needs, earnings and financial conditions. Explains mortgage loan programs to members and recommends options.

Originates mortgage loans in applicable software system, provides accurate disclosures and obtains proper signatures following regulatory timeline requirements. Create the initial application points and fees worksheet.

Attends title company closing, as needed, or closes loans directly with the member.

Sales (20%)

Meets required annual cross sales expectations to be met on an ongoing basis.

Responsible for development of new business and realtor relationships in the area of mortgage lending.

Initiates, creates and delivers presentations for local businesses and Interra seminars.

Possesses the flexibility to travel between branches.

Member Service (20%)

Maintains current knowledge of all credit union products.

Identifies cross-sell opportunities and educates members on credit union products and services.

Follows up on referrals and identifies new relationship opportunities.

Maintains and strengthens relationships with existing member base.

Follows up with members after closing to identify additional needs or to answer questions.

Returns member phone calls and emails the same day, but no later than the next business day, after the message is received.

Keeps members and realtors up to date on the status of their loan application.

Quality Control (10%)

Works with mortgage processor and assistants, as needed, to validate the underwriting worksheet includes aggregate borrowing totals, purpose, cash flows and ratios.

Submits loans for approval to Underwriting staff.

Displays a current knowledge of credit union philosophy, history, organizational standards, policies and procedures.

Provides assistance in the documentation, processing and closing of mortgage loans.

Compliance (10%)

Obtains all necessary financial information from each member at applications. Performs initial review of the application for credit, cash-flow and ratio qualifications.

Knowledgeable of regulations and procedures applicable to the conventional and non-conventional mortgage market.

Knowledgeable of the secondary market lending, rules and procedures.

Understands compliance with applicable statutes and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, and participates in related training.

Discloses and re-discloses loan documentation according to regulatory rules.

Initiates required adverse action letters, when applicable.

Completes required annual training courses provided by the training department.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Must register and obtain a Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) license number.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; two to five years of mortgage origination experience is required. Possess necessary licenses as required by law.

Must be able to work in any branch location of Interra Credit Union.

Preferred Qualifications :
Previous experience in a credit union of bank.
