Closing Team Lead (Plaza Home Mortgage Inc)

Closing Manager, Operations Manager and Regional Manager.


Responsible for supervising the daily activity of a group of Closers, Doc Drawers and/or Funders as well as providing them with leadership and support.


Must comply with all BSA/AML requirements as well as any mandatory changes. The following job functions are not all-inclusive. The associate will be required to perform other job-related tasks/responsibilities requested by the manager. Job duties may change as required by needs of company. Must complete all required industry and compliance training as required by Plaza Home Mortgage.
  • Manage a team of Closers, Doc Drawers and/or Funders within the Closing department of the regional operations center by overseeing the preparation of closing documents and the funding of loans.
  • Work directly with Closers, Doc Drawers, and/or Funders by providing training and daily support.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing and hiring of Closers, Doc Drawers, and/or Funders.
  • Motivate and coach closing team in achieving branch goals.
  • Monitor reports for the purpose of identifying positive and negative trends in productivity within the closing team.
  • Manage pipeline to substantiate loans are closing within the expected turn-times. Review loans that are cleared-to-close and ready for closing documents to be prepared. Oversee Docs Out to confirm loans closed, and when package will be returned. Review loans in Docs Back status to verify that post closing package is shipped.
  • Ensure closing team is adhering to Plaza's Policy & Procedures and that loans are processed in compliance with all State and Federal regulations.
  • Engage in verbal and written communication with Title Companies, Closing Agents and clients.
  • Effectively communicate to the closing team about company changes to policy and procedures.
  • Act as closing and funding resource for the team and the branch.
  • Ensure team sends follow-up documentation to corporate departments, if requested.
  • Support Regional Operations Manager, Closing Manager and Underwriting as required.
  • Oversee the daily preparation of collateral package to be shipped to warehouse bank or custodian.
  • Assist Post Funding department with outstanding document requests.
  • Help with funding/closing overflow as needed, and complete all tasks required by Closer/Doc Drawer or Funder.
  • Actively participate in developing process improvements and efficiencies as an ongoing best practice.
  • Conduct periodic loan-level audits to ensure compliance with all company quality standards.
  • Report productivity and departmental errors on monthly basis to Operations or Closing Manager.
  • Assess and evaluate closer scorecard for efficiency gains; guide team members when required.
  • Coach closing team regularly regarding their job performance and complete annual performance reviews by due date.
  • Lead, guide, mentor and train entire closing team.
  • Work with Regional and Operations Manager on setting monthly goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; College degree preferred.
  • Previous team lead, supervisory, or commensurate experience desired.
  • Current closing experience in the mortgage industry is a must.
  • Working knowledge of loan program products and services, and policies essential.
  • Demonstrated skill in monitoring and overseeing loan production pipeline.
  • Ability to understand and make recommended changes to standard operating procedures.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations is required along with a solid understanding of federal and state closing regulations.
  • Knowledge of paperless file environment and image software repository.
  • Experience with Loan Origination Systems (LOS) such as Calyx Point, Ellie Mae, and NetOxygen.
  • Skilled in Document Preparation Software, such as DocuTech or DocMagic.
  • Proficiency with computer systems including MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Internet Browsers, and email functions required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

This position supervises Closing, Doc Drawer and Funding teams.



Account Executives, Client Service Representatives, Underwriters and Managers.


Approved Brokers and Correspondents as well as Closing Agents.

  • This position requires constant talking, hearing, and use of hands and fingers along with frequent standing and walking as well as occasional stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning, bending at waist, crouching and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Incumbent must be able to sporadically lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Good vision at both close range and at distance is required.

  • This position works primarily indoors in an office setting with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • A moderate noise level is typical for the work environment of this job.
  • Some rare travel by car or plane may be required.
