Position Summary:
The Electrician B role is a technical position focused on the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, telecommunication, automation and measurement systems and equipment. The Electrician B position performs a variety of electrical/technical maintenance, repairs, calibrations and construction for Tesoro.

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed but not limited to eye/face protection, flame-retardant clothing, foot protection, head protection, personal gas detector, respiratory protection, self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), utility gloves, rubber insulating gloves and hearing protection
  • Have extensive knowledge of electrical, telecommunications, automation and/or measurement principals relevant to assigned area of responsibility
  • Be able to interpret blueprints, electronics, electrical and mechanical schematics, one-line diagrams and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's).
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays as necessary and is subject to call-outs including response to emergency situations on a 24-hour basis
  • In general, perform and/or coordinate work as described below on systems and equipment defined as electrical, telecommunications, automation and measurement.
  • Testing, maintenance and repairs of systems and equipment.
  • Installation, testing, assembly and/or turn up of new systems and equipment
  • Oversee the calibration of complex systems and equipment to assure the safe operation of these systems to meet regulatory compliance and company standards.
  • Troubleshooting and analysis of systems and equipment and coordinate actions to resolve problems as needed.
  • Interface with Operations and Engineering team members to resolve operational issues.
  • Prepare records and documentation on a timely basis that meet regulatory compliance standards set forth by federal, state and local government agencies and company policies.
  • Design and/or coordinate design of systems and equipment to provide safe and efficient pipeline operations. This may include concept, estimates, drawings, purchasing, installation and final testing.
  • Train other personnel in systems, maintenance and operations.
  • Maintenance and repair of switchgear, motor control centers and related equipment.
  • Build and perform tests on prototype systems to determine operability and compatibility.
  • Develop and evaluate calibration, start-up and operational procedures.
  • Check accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of data and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Perform maintenance on test equipment and assures certification within specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs and installations and oversee work performed by contractors and vendors.
  • Must be knowledgeable of National Electrical Code, California State Safety Orders and OSHA.
  • Perform MAXIMO based maintenance activities, including but not limited to preventive, repairs, technical support and compliance.
EDUCATION and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5-7 years experience in Pipeline Operations, Terminal Storage and Petrochemical Industry.
  • Vocational/Specialized Training (Maintenance Management, Basic Supervision, Communication) or equivalent
  • Journeyman Electrician in California or an equivalent combination of EDUCATION and experience
