Pipeline Welding Engineer (Hyperloop Technologies)

The Design & Analysis Division is responsible for the design and development of the HyperPod, the tube, and support pylons for the Hyperloop transportation systems. These include the compressor, bearings, heat exchangers, HyperPod vehicle and ancillary mechanical systems as well as the structural elements of the tube system. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Los Angeles facility.
As a Pipeline Weld Engineer at Hyperloop you will play a key role in developing the transportation system of the future. You will advise the world class engineering team in material selection, manufacturing techniques, and testing protocols.
  • Technical support in the areas of pipeline design, construction, maintenance, integrity testing and repair, and inspection
  • Weld development
  • Develop new or modify existing welding methods, techniques, and procedures

  • Forming & Joining techniques
  • Composites manufacturing experience
  • Material testing
  • Nondestructive testing
  • Anti-corrosion coating selection
  • Identification and setup of weld equipment and processes
  • Leading a team of technicians
  • Creating and conducting necessary structural tests on welded components, tube, and support components
  • Overseeing system fabrication
  • Designs and implements welding procedures for both pipeline and plant applications compliant with the applicable codes and regulations
  • Provides guidance and mentoring of lesser-skilled personnel on pipeline design, operation, maintenance, repair and regulatory codes as well as industry standards.
  • Understands the technical issues and can apply/interpret both current and future needs, situations, and applications

  • B.S. in Material Science, Weld Engineering, or related field
  • Advanced degree in Material Science or Weld Engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields:
    • Pipeline manufacturing
    • Weld processes and techniques
    • Spiral tube welding
    • Materials testing
    • Composites manufacturing
    • Brazing
    • Magnetic properties of metals and ceramics
    • Galvanic corrosion
    • Corrosion prevention
    • Subsea pipeline projects
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards (such as AMS, SAE, ASM, ASTM, etc.)
  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills to address complex technical matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and work with both company and non-company personnel to accomplish goals in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal guidance or supervision
