Logistics Shift Manager Permanent Position in Indiana

 Essential Job Functions
  • Ensure that safety regulations and procedures are adhered to at all times, layered process audits, shop floor audits and thorough investigations are conducted, appropriate follow-ups are completed, and new safety requirements are implemented as situations arise.
  • Conducts and attends safety meetings.
  • Supply customers with high-quality and on-time service.
  • Communicates with marine boaters and barges.
  • Controls the bridge movement as requested from the marine traffic.
  • Control interlocks in order to secure unauthorized movement over the bridge.  
  • Coordinates bridge maintenance activities with operations and maintenance groups.  
  • Communicates with the outside railroads regarding car ordering, bad orders, etc.
  • Manages and maintains overtime – responsible for ensuring open turns are filled in accordance with the locally agreed upon switching unit overtime policy.
  • Makes suggestions and recommendations regarding improvements in operating methods and procedures regarding loading/unloading and movement of rail cars.
  • Analyzes and completes daily reports on incidents including derailments.
  • Able to plan ahead, schedule and Client out work so as to make optimum use of personnel, materials and equipment along with maximizing utilization of the bridge.
  • Setting out for repair bad order cars and making necessary contacts regarding – internal or external contacts.
  • Maintain good employee relations by fair and impartial administration and decisions of all employee problems, with due consideration being given to the Labor Agreement and ArcelorMittal Steel USA policies.
  • Makes decisions regarding the issuance of discipline to correct work performance issues and/or other types of personal conduct issues and violations of plant rules; includes responsibility for writing discipline letters.
  • Must inspire teamwork and high morale.
  • Work with operating departments to resolve logistical bottlenecks.
