Technical Scrum Master
Location: Denver CO
Duration: 3-6 month contract to hire
We are seeking a Technical Scrum Master who will be responsible for working with the product, development, and QA teams to support Agile methodologies in a fast paced and challenging environment.

Job Description

  • Help the team on self organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks
  • Be the first to notice differences and issues as they arise and elevate them to management
  • Facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approach
  • Ensure Agile/Scrum concepts and principles are adhered to, must be able to be a voice of reason and authority, make the tough calls
  • Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
  • Guide the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers
  • Remove impediments for the team
  • Be familiar with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments, and better development practices
  • Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by the development and QA teams
  • Understand other processes and methodologies and can speak intelligently about them and leverage other techniques to provide value to the teams
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, and with an emphasis on problem solving
  • Be a facilitator for getting the work done, be able to facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assist with internal and external communication and with improving transparency
  • Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
  • Provide support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
  • Be able to communicate well with teams and Management
Required Skills and Expertise:
  • First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) is a must have
  • Understanding of backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, and task definition
  • Experience with fundamentals of software development processes and procedures
  • Familiarity with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments, and better development practices
  • Familiarity with Kanban methodologies
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of solid Scrum Master related experience for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory along with one of the following:
  • Previous experience serving as a developer
    • or
  • Previous experience serving as a QA Automation Engineer (actually writing code and automating scripts)
  • SCP4 Professional (Scalable Certified Professional 4) is highly preferred
    • If the candidate is a SCP4, the developer/QA Automation experience is not mandatory and the years of experience could be 3+ years, but for non-SCP4 candidates, the 5 years of experience coupled with either the development or QA Automation experience is a must have
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games, Kanban
  • Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach(example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc)
