HVAC & Plumbing Systems Estimator

Job Summary

Plans, coordinates, and prepares estimates on individually assigned projects and completes the final bid summary and scope letter prior to the bid review meeting. Is responsible to review all plans, specifications, and other bid documents to ensure an accurate and complete bid, minimizing the risk to our Client. Coordinates and verifies vendor and subcontractors bids to achieve the same. Also assists the Chief Estimator in the development and implementation of department standards and procedures.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepares assigned estimates and reviews with the team for completeness and accuracy prior to submission to the client.
  • Creates bid files in tracking software and updates assigned projects on a regular basis.
  • Reviews all prebid documentation including but not limited to; plans, specifications, addendums, request for proposal, instructions to bidders, etc....
  • Prepares cost analysis by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead cost incurred in the installation of items.
  • Reviews vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and compliance with the bid documents. Evaluates who to carry giving us the best opportunity to be awarded the project with the least amount of risk.
  • Assists in maintaining the estimating procedures and guidelines.
  • Assists in the development and maintaining resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and government requirements.
  • Directly works with other estimators on the assigned projects and verifies their takeoffs for completeness and accuracy.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must have good communication, organizational skill, time management, mathematical skill, computer knowledge, and directional ability. Ability to work with other estimators on the assigned project.

Education and Work Experience

Must have a well-rounded knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, other computer programs, and be able to type and process thoughts at a moderate rate. Must know all disciplines of the trade including; Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal, Service, Rentals, Indirect Costs, and Management requirements for projects. Minimum 5 years working as an estimator and 1 year in a supervisory role is helpful. Knowledge of Trimble QuickPen Estimating System a plus.
