Installs new software releases and system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, and resolves software related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area with 8or more years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has expert knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
Provide the technical leadership for the PERS LAN/WAN network infrastructure, which is made up of three remote sites, connections to the state of Oregon backbone, and interacts with over 900 Oregon employers whose employees are members of PERS to maintain its operational status. Designs, builds, installs, configures and maintains network infrastructure. Research, analyze and evaluate new network technologies. Provides technical leadership to Desktop Support Analysts and LAN Administrators. Provides and maintains IT security expertise. Explores new innovative methods in network communication and security technologies to improve systems efficiencies and effectiveness. Administer and manage IT security systems in a multi-tiered, distributed environment.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the day-to-day operations of the PERS host computers by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions to host system firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
Establishes, maintains and manages Active Directory accounts. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on server computer systems. Provides server support related to other software.
Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host computer operating systems, disk arrays, fiber channel switches, tape libraries and other components.
Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host computer resources.
Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host operating systems and host-based applications.
Manages the data center and computer host systems including hardware, software and equipment such as air-conditioning system, UPS (uninterrupted power system) and fire protection system.
Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways for PERS to take advantage of new technology.
Administer and support core Microsoft, Client, and VMware technologies
Provisioning of physical and virtual servers, operating systems, network equipment, software and applications. Addition of these IT infrastructure elements to the standard monitoring, backup and inventory systems.
Regularly apply hardware, software, application and management tool upgrades/patches to assure performance, stability and security.
Troubleshooting, repair and recovery from hardware, software and service failures. Communication with impacted constituencies and coordination with IT staff during recovery efforts.
Daily monitoring of IT infrastructure and response/escalation for events and issues requiring immediate troubleshooting and resolution.
Provide after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well occasional weekend maintenance
Preferred knowledge and or experience
  • Microsoft Windows server 2008 and newer
  • Microsoft Active Directory, Domain Controllers, and DHCP/DNS infrastructure.
  • VMware ESXi version 6.5
  • Worked with enterprise data backup solutions (i.e., Veritas, Veem, Commvault, etc.)
  • Microsoft SCCM, and Shavlik
  • SolarWinds, syslog, and splunk
  • LAN, WLAN, 802.1x, VLAN's, etc.
  • SAN and Fiber switching
  • Client Networking equipment,
Work to be done on-site Tigard, OR, will not pay any travel or expenses
The selected candidate hours will not exceed 1040, for this work order.
