  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or other relevant field.
  • Masters degree or further education in information systems auditing preferred.
  • Masters degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance is preferred.
  • CISA or CISA candidate, CISSP or CISSP candidate, CIA or CIA candidate, and/or CPA or CPA candidate.
  • 3 – 4 + years or more equivalent experience (public accounting / external audit, internal audit, information technology and/or staff accountant responsibilities).
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Team orientation and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Basic familiarity with GAAP, GAAS and IIA standards.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office product suite.
  • Knowledge of IT controls and how they affect the control environment. COBIT, COSO, and related standards preferred.
  • Greater than basic understanding of Sarbanes Oxley Section 404, and the role that information technology plays in compliance.
  • Greater than basic understanding of systems infrastructure and security, connectivity, remote access, and data mining.
  • Greater than basic understanding of financial reporting, transaction cycles and business processes.
  • Greater than basic understanding of fundamental layers of information systems including network infrastructure, computer operating systems, database management systems, and computer applications.
  • Experience supervising 4 – 5 or more individuals

Job description: This position is primarily responsible for execution of various engagement objectives within assigned areas and assists where necessary to complete the overall engagement. The individual is responsible for day-to-day execution of engagement objectives on smaller engagements. This role requires the ability to supervise teams of 4 – 5 staff members to ensure they receive direction and resources in the event engagement issues arise. This requires an understanding of the client's industry (e.g. inventory / distribution, oil & gas, financial institutions) and pertinent regulations, and the ability to learn unfamiliar industries and regulations. The individual should have a detailed understanding of the role that information technology plays in critical business cycles, including financial reporting. This position should have a thorough understanding of IT general controls including security administration, program change management, program development and computer operations, and should develop a thorough understanding of the interaction of systems and financial processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Core Competency is the demonstrated ability to carry out the primary responsibilities of the job:
  • Detailed understanding of COBIT, COSO and related frameworks.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of general business operations and the supporting role of information systems and IT operations.
  • Thorough understanding of applications and IT general controls including security administration, program change management, program development, and computer operations.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of professional standards and their relation to IT Advisory Services.
  • Execute engagement planning for larger / complex recurring engagements and smaller / more basic non-recurring engagements.
  • Execute the engagement plan in the most complex IT areas.
  • Ability to independently research issues and make recommendations based on best practices.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments of varying sizes and complexity within given timeframe and budget.
  • Exhibit initiative, sense of responsibility, and independence by following through on open items and issues to obtain completion.
  • Develop and assist in the training of other staff; create an environment that fosters learning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform, and deliver work independently without significant supervision on all engagements.
  • Supervise staff members on multiple concurrent engagements.
  • Monitor and supervise progress of staff and provide performance feedback as needed.
  • Perform primary review of work papers prepared by engagement staff.
  • Work closely with all experienced team members to identify and resolve issues encountered in executing engagement objectives through effective and timely communication.
  • Keep engagement manager and/or partner apprised of assignment status and progress through timely communication.
  • Work with direct report manager to develop an appropriate plan of professional development, professional reading, and CPE, and take responsibility to ensure that plan is achieved.
  • Work diligently towards acquisition of CISA, CISSP, or CIA certifications and / or CPA license.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship and demonstrate effective communication with client personnel at appropriate levels.
  • Maintain appropriate professionalism in client and team interactions.
  • Serve as the primary contact with the client for any engagement.
  • Submit documentation resulting from an engagement (results of testing / analysis, reports, work papers) for review that is complete, well organized, and timely.
  • Demonstrate superior report writing skills.
  • Demonstrate mindfulness of budget and deadline considerations and strive for adherence.
  • Adhere to the Firm's policies and procedures, ACTION philosophy, demonstrate their importance to others, and provide input to management on suggested modifications to Firm policies and procedures as necessary
  • Be familiar with and adhere to relevant ethical requirements of the AICPA, contained in the Code of Professional Conduct, the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, and the Texas Society of CPA's in discharging their professional responsibilities.
  • Understand and adhere to rules, regulations, and code of professional conduct as stipulated by the Institute of Internal Auditors and / or the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Learn and practice effective delegation and utilization of staff.
