CHEM HEMA & COAG-SHC Clinical Lab manager oversees the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories.Ensures that programs, policies, and procedures are established and implemented to meet customer needs, department standards, and regulatory agency requirements.Assesses and determines the staffing needs and practices of the department to optimize the utilization of personnel.Provides leadership and direction to staff in the achievement of business objectives.Ensures operational effectiveness and productivity needs are met.

The essential functions:

  • Communicate and provide leadership to supervisors and staff in the implementation of new processes and techniques.Collaborate with Laboratory and Section Medical Directors, managers and supervisors in establishing strategic plans and development of new programs to improve efficiency, quality, compliance, service and financial outcomes for the laboratories.

  • Develop, administer, and monitor the operating budget and cost accounting data for assigned area of responsibility.Collaborate with the Finance Director, Operations Director, and/or Administrative Director to ensure that annual capital and operating budget needs are developed, implemented, and monitored to meet the financial goals of the organization.

  • Maintain and meet laboratory regulatory requirements at optimum level including staff competency and training.

  • Maintains medical laboratory productivity benchmarking standards by monitoring workload of functional areas; identifying peak and slack periods; making operational or staffing adjustments as necessary in coordination with supervisors.

  • Manage daily operational issues related to laboratory information system.Provide input and operational decisions in the implementation of information systems projects.Provides feedback for future information technology.

  • Manage the operations and services delivery of assigned areas of responsibility for the clinical laboratories.Ensure that programs, policies and procedures are developed and implemented in accordance with department, quality and regulatory agency requirements.

  • Provide leadership and support to Supervisors and staff to monitor operating performance, standardize laboratory practices, optimize human and financial resources, maintain productivity and resolve technical, service and non-operational issues.

  • Rotate as administrator-on-call for the consolidated laboratories and directs response to critical or emergent situations.

  • Support the development and implementation of quality assurance programs; provide leadership and support to the Outreach supervisors and staff to develop systems and tools to measure satisfaction and quality of care against industry benchmarks.

  • Maintain ability to run financial and operational reports to ensure adherence to budgetary and benchmarking standards. Qualified applicants with criminal convictions will be considered after an individualized assessment of the conviction and the job requirements.**

Job Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university


  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible directly related work experience


  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) OR Clinical Immunohemotologist Scientist (CIS).

ASCP-certification or equivalent preferred.
