Cardiac Sonographer II

 Works under the supervision of the Cardiology Clinic and Testing Supervisor, Division Manager, and the Echocardiography Laboratory Medical Director.   Performs prompt, courteous, and quality echocardiographic and support services at an expert level. Travels to regional sites and performs echocardiograms independently.  Mentors students and level I sonographers as requested.  Participates in the echocardiography on call rotation.
 
  • Performs routine/urgent transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiography diagnostics in accordance with established protocols as measured by physician feedback and managerial observation.
  • Provides echocardiography services at sites as needed.
  • Provides backup coverage in other non-invasive diagnostic areas of the department.
  • Submits all charges accurately and timely per policy as measured by managerial review.
  • Participates in the on-call schedule for echocardiography and responds promptly when called in as measured by physician feedback and managerial observation.
  • Works closely with the clinical secretary to assure timely patient access to echocardiography services and responses to physician referrals
  • Works collaboratively with Cardiology and all hospital departments
  • Effectively mentors students and level I sonographers as requested.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities of the department as measured by managerial observation.
  • Maintains cardiac echocardiography equipment in good condition, reporting malfunctions appropriately.
  • Uses and orders supplies and materials prudently to maximize cost effectiveness of procedures.
  • Completes job specific continuing education within the appraisal period.
  • Maintains competence by attending relevant seminars and training opportunities and providing supervisor with appropriate records.
 
Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in the field of science and graduation from an accredited cardiac ultrasound program
  • Minimum of five years of echocardiography experience combined with current ARDMS registry in Adult Echocardiography may be substituted for degree.
  • 3 years' relevant health care experience required.
  • Prior experience as a cardiac sonographer required
  • Broad knowledge of general cardiology pathophysiology and diagnostics required.
  • ARDMS registry in Adult Echocardiography or CCI registry with RCS credential required.
  • BLS Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • ACLS Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Driver's License required.
