Assistant Technical Laboratory Director - Molecular Diagnostics

The Technical Laboratory Director of Molecular Diagnostics oversees molecular diagnostic assays to ensure high quality clinical testing results are delivered to clients in a timely fashion. The person in this position also provides scientific input into molecular business strategy and direction.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide scientific oversight of molecular diagnostic assays in the department with a focus on high throughput molecular diagnostics using proper controls to ensure high quality clinical testing results are delivered to clients in a timely manner.
  • Provide scientific oversight of timely selection, development and validation of clinical molecular diagnostic assays. Assists in strategic development of the laboratory services.
  • Provide oversight and direction to ensure laboratory regulatory compliance (CAP, CLIA, etc.)
  • Preliminary clinical report preparation for final interpretation by a pathologist as needed.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support Laboratory Services.
  • Assists in establishing and executing departmental long and short-term goals.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective department QA programs and monitors.
  • Work with other departments within the facility and subsidiaries.
  • Present material to various committees.
  • Assist in developing Protocols and Technical Bulletins to help Market our services.
  • Help Clients with interpretation of molecular diagnostic results.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with customers, physicians, and colleagues to ensure customer satisfaction and provide scientific input into molecular business strategy and direction.
  • Ensure effective employee relations by sustaining an ethical, non-discriminatory and safe work environment and establishing effective communication lines and methods. Identify and solve employee problems, manage conflict, and respond to grievances as needed.
  • Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • PhD in Molecular Biology or related field
  • Tennessee State License as a high complexity laboratory director is required within 2 years. This will require board certification from a board recognized by Tennessee (ABMG, ABB, etc.).
  • Two years or more of post-graduate job-related experience with all molecular techniques and technologies in molecular diagnostics (including nucleic acid isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, QPCR, and Next Generation Sequencing) is required.
  • High level software capabilities with common business software and demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new software tools. Coding experience not required but useful.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline driven environment.
  • Project management experience including team management skills is preferred.
