Medical Laboratory Technician

The duties of a Medical Lab Technician include specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining laboratory records, adhering to clinical laboratory procedures and quality control policies, clinical operations, and proper documentation.

  • Data entry for patient records and laboratory information system (LIS) completed accurately.
  • Monitors inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Patient specimen handling & collection using universal precautions.
  • Performs test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Performs daily operation & maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintains proficiency testing records that demonstrate compliance with regulations.
  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies.
  • Documents all quality control activities, instrument maintenance, and calibrations.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or test results and notifies Laboratory Manager immediately.
  • Executes & documents lab corrective action whenever test systems are not acceptable or when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Assists with training and instructions of any contingent workers with laboratory testing.

  • This candidate must have a degree and/or certification as a medical lab technician or medical technologist.
  • 2+ years clinical experience in a medical environment.
  • MUST have experience with Elisa
  • Requires problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Possesses writing and oral communication skills with advanced computer aptitude.
  • Holds a solid knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques, procedures, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy & efficiency.
  • Demonstrates time management skills in the process of laboratory testing and presenting data requested in a timely manner as well as completion of projects.
  • Ability to read and comprehend patient medical charts, medical terminology, prescription medications, and physician messages.
  • Involves computer knowledge and interpretation for both EHR and PM systems.
  • This position is limited to the amount of experience and training received within the laboratory; duties will increase accordingly under the direction a clinical laboratory manager.
