Performs a variety of laboratory examinations and tests including specialized or experimental procedures assuring rapid and accurate results. Supervises lesser qualified employees of the section.
  • Performs reviews and reports complex laboratory tests in assigned section in accordance with prescribed procedures according to standards set by FDA, CAP, AABB, GDHR and The Joint Commission.
  • Analyzes and corrects problems using assigned protocol
  • Operates and maintains equipment in assigned area. Knowledgeable of LIS functions.
  • Equipment Operation / Maintenance
  • Troubleshoots equipment, unusual sample situations, QC Failures
  • Performs QC/QA procedures using assigned protocol.
  • Pursues proficiency with new procedures and equipment
  • Reviews unusual or abnormal results seeking assistance from Managers, Medical Technologist Specialists, Clinical Lab Supervisor, and Pathologists when necessary.
  • Assists in teaching responsibilities for the students in the assigned areas as well as training and orientation of new employees.
  • Assists in specimen collection as necessary and carries out measures to ensure chemical and biohazardous safety.

  • Baccalaureate degree from accredited college or university to include minimum of 30 quarter hours of lecture science, including at least 15 quarter hours of chemistry, 10 quarter hours of biology and 5 quarter hours of math.
  • Registration as a Medical Technologist by the Board of Registry as ASCP, AMT, NCA or HHS. All newly hired technical staff must pass an approved certification exam within six (6) months of employment. Employees already on staff, promoted to a MT or MLT position have a six-month period beginning from the date of promotion.
  • Familiar with LIS.
