POSITION OVERVIEW
Position Title Interpretative Intern

Position Description The intern at Reconstruction Era National Historical Park will not only assist with day to day interpretive operations, but also have opportunities to develop and lead public facing programs and products such as website writing, brochures, and multimedia.
Learning Goal The intern will gain experience with project development in the public history field. Working with the park staff and supervisors, they will identify specific topics of interest and work with staff to research and explore ways to share that story with the public through a variety of platforms. The goal is for the intern to have a completed public history product - a tour, video, brochure, exhibit, or website - that they have developed from the research phase to implementation. Learn about careers with the National Park Service and Federal Government.
Qualifications
Prefer history majors and/or experience and passion for African American history. Public speaking and comfort engaging with the general public is important.

Participants must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent legal resident ( "green-card-holder) and currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree program at an accredited institution of higher education during the summer internship.
Additional qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled or recent graduate of an accredited HBCU institution
  • Must be between 16 and 30years of age
  • Must be U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident or U.S. national
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check
  • Must be fully vaccinated 
Work Environment Most of the work will be conducted indoors in office settings or climate controlled storage areas. Public programs are sometimes offered outdoors for short periods of time, due to summer heat.
Vehicle/License Requirement A personal vehicle is needed.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Compensation is at a rate of $15.00 per hour, 40 hours per week.
