Position Description Ulysses S. Grant National Site is seeking a skilled Interdisciplinary position - Cultural Resource Management and Interpretation Interns will learn skills in collection management and principles of interpreting park's themes to visitors. A background check is required for this position to access government buildings and computers.
Learning Goal Understanding of the NPS mission and importance of stewardship Cultural resource management and preservation skills Experience working with a small historic site Awareness of National Park Service and career opportunities Knowledge of 19th century American history and its relevance today Professional mentoring Experience in developing relevant and engaging public programs for diverse audiences Public speaking and research presentation Learn about careers with the National Park Service and Federal Government.
Qualifications Current college student or recent college graduate Some coursework or experience in the following is helpful: History, Communications, Social Sciences (Anthropology, Sociology, etc) and/or Humanities.

Participants must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent legal resident ( "green-card-holder) and currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree program at an accredited institution of higher education during the summer internship.
Additional qualifications:
  • Must be currently enrolled or recent graduate of an accredited HBCU institution
  • Must be between 16 and 30years of age
  • Must be U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident or U.S. national
  • Must be able to pass a federal background check
  • Must be fully vaccinated 
Work Environment Most of the work will be conducted indoors in office settings or climate controlled storage areas. Public programs are sometimes offered outdoors for short periods of time, due to summer heat.
Vehicle/License Requirement A personal vehicle is needed.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Compensation is at a rate of $15.00 per hour, 40 hours per week.
