The USDA-Forest Service and Greening Youth Foundation are seeking a highly motivated recent graduate for an architectural historian/historic architect paid internship position located on the Mark Twain National Forest in beautiful Rolla, MO. The position will provide support to engineering and heritage staff managing the historic built environment on National Forest lands. The intern will work directly with a well-integrated and collaborative team of eight heritage professionals, and will play a critical role in the management of historic structures on the Forest. 

  • Documentation and eligibility assessments for a built environment that includes agricultural, residential, industrial, and administrative structures dating from mid-19th to mid-20th century.
  • Ensure Forest is fulfilling obligations under two existing Programmatic Agreements addressing historic structures
  • Assist with project review and drafting correspondence for SHPO consultation.
  • GIS data entry and drafting historic property inventory forms/site forms.
  • Assist with preparation of historic structure conditions assessments and maintenance plans.
Locations:  Mark Twain National Forest, Rolla, Missouri 
Compensation: $12/hour
Duration: 6 months
