Integrated Resource Technician Intern

Location: Conasauga Ranger District, Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest

This 24-week program is a rigorous work and learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. Participants will gain experience in forestry, wildlife and fisheries management, and recreation.Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with a timber marking and layout crew
  • Participate in treatment of invasive plants with herbicides
  • Wildlife and plant surveys
  • Assist with various terrestrial and aquatic habitat improvement projects
  • Assist with recreation and trails projects  
The work is performed primarily in a field environment. Field work requires strenuous physical exertion, including walking, bending and climbing in rugged terrain under adverse conditions. 
 
Degree Requirements: 
Applicants must have a associate's degree, bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources, outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science (no more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable).
 
Special Skills:  
Practical knowledge of standard forestry practices, methods, and techniques, use of aerial photographs, maps etc.  Knowledge of a variety of trees and other vegetation common to the area.  Experience with hand tools, chainsaws, heavy equipment, GPS and/or GIS is valuable. A state driver's license is required. 
 
Benefits:
$12.50/Hour 
$1,500 for Professional Development (travel, training, etc.)
$1,000/month Housing Stipend
